                                                        My Rant

There are two things that really bug me. First, climbing gear that falls apart. C'mon people! Don't buy into
the commercialism that surrounds this sport. Use stuff that has been time tested and has a flawless
record for quality. Not only that, but realize that things have a life span and need to be replaced regularly.
If something looks ratty, it probably is! This is not a sport for the economically challenged. Be prepared to
spend that hard earned money frequently and copiously.
The second thing that gets under my skin is the lack of forethought within the community as to how
individuals, even professionals, take the seriousness of this sport so lightly. A person can be seriously
injured or killed doing this. Have some health insurance, life insurance and join the AAC and get some
rescue insurance before undertaking this kind of activity. That way, if something goes wrong, you and
yours are somewhat protected and any mishap won't break the bank. If you have kids/family, take it easy
out there. They need you way more than you need to feed your ego.

Climb safe, calculate your risks, have contingency plans, respect and appreciate others and the
lands we climb on.
